Sleep Apnea

Did you know that 30 million people in the US snore? Out of all of these patients, over half of them are suffering from sleep apnea.

Sleep apnea is a harmful disorder that leads to an increased risk of:

  • High blood pressure
  • Heart attack
  • Stroke
  • Depression

Sleep apnea has a negative impact on your oxygen intake and your sleep. You wake up feeling groggy and unfocused. Fortunately, Dr. Jeanne Martin can help you diagnose and treat sleep apnea.

What is Sleep Apnea?

Sleep apnea occurs when the tongue and soft tissue fall back into the throat during sleep and block the airway. The sufferer wakes up multiple times each night to reopen their airways. These awakenings are so brief that the sufferer usually does not remember them the next morning!

What are my Treatment Options?

Sleep apnea can be treated with a CPAP machine, surgical options, or mouthguards. We provide snore guards at Cherry Blossom Dentistry that can eliminate snoring and sleep apnea.

What is Snore Guard Therapy?

We will customize your snore guard to fit your mouth and teeth comfortably. You should wear your oral appliance during sleep to keep the airway open and unobstructed. Snore guards work by:

  • Holding the jaw, tongue, soft palate, and uvula in open positions
  • Stabilizing the jaw and tongue
  • Increasing the muscle tone in the tongue and soft tissues

Look for the symptoms of sleep apnea like daytime sleepiness, snoring or gasping sounds during sleep, mood swings, and memory loss. If you or your partner is suffering from nighttime snoring, give us a call at Cherry Blossom Dentistry. We are confident that we can help you get back to those relaxing nights of deep sleep!
